Marc Jacobs Fragrances

I had a voucher from Club 21 which would expire soon. Undecided on what to get from Club 21, or rather which store to use it, I decided to head to Marc by Marc Jacobs at Ngee Ann City in the hope that my regular SA would be there. He was there! Yay! Despite the fact that I have not shopped there in a long while, he still remembered me and was as patient as before.

In the end, I decided to just get the Lola Velvet which is a limited edition fragrance. I also won a miniature of Daisy Eau So Fresh at the Mandarin Gallery outlet by spinning the wheel (part of its 10th Anniversary promotion).

2 fragrances in a day. It was really fortunate that I did not buy Daisy Eau So Fresh which was highly recommended by the SA.

I find Lola Velvet to have a stronger scent and a bit decadent unlike Daisy Eau So Fresh which is lighter. Plus I love the purple frosted bottle of Lola Velvet with the velvety flower top.

Wild Cherry Tree from L'Occitane

I absolutely love this new limited edition collection from L'Occitane ~ Wild Cherry Tree. Somehow the scent is lighter and sweeter than the other Cherry Blossom or Japanese Cherry Blossom collections.

The Wild Cherry Tree collection is only available in selected items such as the candle, room fragrance and diffuser. JK got these for me as a birthday gift. Actually JK paid the balance after I utilized my voucher :p Thanks :)

GapBody EDT - Coconut Tuberose

I picked this up at the recent Prestige Warehouse Sale, which is by far the worst sale I have ever been to. Not that I am a connoisseur of private/warehouse sales, but I have been to those held by The Body Shop, Molton Brown, L'Oreal Luxury Brands, regular L'Oreal drugstore brands, Shiseido, Luxasia and the mother of all private sales - Estee Lauder (EL) Private Sale.

This was my first visit to the Prestige Warehouse Sale as I was always busy during the other sale times and it was so far away at Jalan Bukit Merah area. I got there around 11am (it started at 10am) and it was not that crowded but the system...oh my goodness.

As you can see from the floor plan (yes, I am too free to even bother creating a floor plan), it was mostly fragrances on sale. 3 rows of tables containing perfumes from brands which I have never really heard of. Obviously I don't remember those brands now, except these which I do recognize or know - Guess, Morgan, Ferrari, Versace, Mango, Givenchy and GapBody.

Most people attended the Prestige Warehouse Sale for Givenchy and Paul & Joe. Based on other people's accounts of previous sales, there were more items being sold. Such as loose powder, gwps items and Loewe fragrance. This sale was thus a disappointment, plus the prices were higher than previous sales too.

So how was this sale bad? As seen from the floor plan (not drawn to scale), Givenchy and Paul & Joe were at opposite end of the table. When I got there at 11am, there were lines forming (e.g. the arrow icons). Apparently when it started at 10am, people were just crowding around and so they decided to have queues to make it orderly. Sound idea, except it took so darn long to wait in line, especially if you could not even scan to see what was available.

Plus if you were there during your 1 hour lunch break, you would definitely not make it back in time. I only queued at Paul & Joe. It took me about 20mins to get there, with only about 10 persons in front of me. People just took too long to try the samples. Since I was helping others to buy, I just asked the person there for the items. All out of stock even though the samples were there. The eye shadows were at $15 each, not really a bargain at all, compared to other sales, so I did not bother. Plus the colors were hard to swatch.

So yes, I decided to just grab the GapBody EDT since I tried that while waiting in line. It was $14, down from $56 or something. At 100ml, it is quite a good deal. I checked online, it is going for US$20 (sale price at US$12.99). Coconut Tuberose has a faint rosy and a light coconut scent. It reminded me of beaches and tanning lotion. A beach holiday.

Anyway, so I went to the payment section. I was directed to Cashier B which was the CASH ONLY line. Halfway while waiting (only about 5-6 people ahead of me), it became a CASH + VISA payment line as the NETS machine over at Cashier A (to be a cash, NETS and credit cards line) broke down. Despite only 5-6 people in front of me, it still took me about 20 minutes to complete my transcation.

Most of this was due to their system of bagging the items customers ordered from Givenchy or Paul & Joe. The items you wanted would be placed in a ziplock bag with a number attached, the matching number will be given to you. Give that number to the guy standing outside the room where all the bags were stored, and he would search for that bag so that you could make payment.

Unfortunately theory always sounded better than in practice. In real life, they could not find the matching bag. Or if they did, the bag did not contain what the person requested for. The staff tried to solve this discrepancy by saying if it is not inside the bag, it means it is out of stock. However, most customers would have been watching what the people put inside the bag when they ordered.

So the other option is for them to go back to the counter and ask for the items. Most times though, the item would be out of stock by then. So it is very frustrating to the customer when that happened.

This is the only sale where I have been to where such a system exists. Already they put your handbags into a plastic bag and tied it so people could not really steal. It is just time wasting to have to queue to see the items at Givenchy and Paul & Joe, and then queue again for payment and to discover your items were not what you requested.

Until the management at Prestige learn from other organizers, I doubt I would make a trip down again just for the sale. The bagging problem happened at last year's sale. The only change they made was instead of writing your name on the bag, they gave out the matching number. So I guess the management is really so worried about letting customers put the items into their basket and make payment.

EL Private Sale 2009

The EL Private Sale came and went. Instead of 1 day, it was held over 2 days for different people (staff, VIPs and F&Fs). Somehow I was not that excited or keen on makeup anymore. In fact there were less tickets given out too, and I only got mine quite late. So it was a different feel since it was not a big group of us girls going in and going ga-ga at the items available.

Again, it seemed like I hardly buy makeup now :p or at least not from MAC. It was the most crowded section and I didn't really bother to check out what was available. I focused on Bobbi Brown and Origins. But no body care for me this year! Quite an amazing feat :p

My loot - lots from Estee Lauder and Bobbi Brown. And a fragrance set from Tommy Hilfiger Dreaming. All these for $300. More than my damage for last year but probably less than the previous 2 years :p

From Estee Lauder and Origins - I wanted the mascara as I don't believe in paying more than $20 for something you need to throw away after 3 months. The blusher will be a gift for my mom as she was looking for a blusher previously. I just realized the green eyeshadow (Camouflage) I bought was already included in a eye palette set which I have. Darn.

I have been eyeing this set when it was released to be sold exclusively at Takashimaya. It is a very good set as it includes a 4pc mini brush set, makeup case, and the palette contains 2 blushers, 6 eyeshadows (3 eyeshadow duos) and 3 lip color, plus the mirror. Now I am so glad I didn't buy this at full retail price.

My Bobbi Brown buys. I was doing CP for a friend and decided to grab some for myself. I was also eyeing the lipgloss trio when it was released last year but again, I didn't want to pay so much at full retail price since I only like the pouch more than the lip colors. Lol. And again, I realize I already have one of the lipgloss. I also bought the pink raspberry lipgloss which was released together with the pink raspberry face palette. I am undecided about the face palette as I probably only like the blush. The velvet plum eye palette was a lovely set.

The Bobbi Brown Palette System Holder was a last minute buy. I am also undecided if I want to keep it. I only want the blush brush and mascara since I rarely use eyeshadow brushes. The pouch is a nice pink quartz and roomy enough to store many things. But I have so many pouches already and so this is really not needed. Sigh.

I only bought this fragrance set because of the price. Hahahahaha. It is too good a deal to miss. Plus I like the silver clutch though it was more like a pouch as it has 3 zippered compartments inside. So the 50ml Dreaming fragrance, body lotion and pouch for only $35. I do like Dreaming with its tuberose, freesia and hibiscus. My one and only MAC purchase - Antique Green pigment. And DKNY Delicious shower gel.

Givenchy Fragrance - Jardin D'Interdit Dancing with Butterflies

While I didn't buy the fragrance from Donna Karen at the EL Sale, I did buy one from DFS. I shared the duo set with Celest, so it was cheaper ;) In addition, with any fragrance purchased, you get a complimentary gift set - pouch, miniature of Very Irresistable and some samples.

Apparently Givenchy Jardin D'Interdit Dancing with Butterflies, released in Summer/Fall 2007, is limited edition and exclusive to DFS and Japan. So I can't find much information on it. I realized DFS has lots of exclusive stuff, particularly for fragrances. So far my 2 Givenchy perfumes were always bought from DFS and not really available in the stores.

I love the blue bottle with the raspberry spray top. The other version, Givenchy Jardin D'Interdit is also very pretty with a pink frosted bottle with a lime green spray top. The colors were similar to Absolutely Givenchy but in reverse. Oh, I just realized the actual bottle did not have the fragrance notes on it. The display set had that. Darn. Anyway, the Jardin D'Interdit Dancing with Butterflies is a fruity floral fragrance - my kind of perfume :)

At last count, I think there are around 36 bottles. These exclude my miniatures or sample vials/sprays. I love fragrances, more so than makeup. I like how the different scents evoke different memories and feelings.

The cK BE leaked and some got onto me when I took it out. Somehow the cap was loose, but it is all good now. Managed to screw it back on. And smelling cK BE again reminded me of my apartment in Sussex Ave and the first time I smelled it. It was given out on campus as samples. So it brought back memories of Canada and somehow of my Perry Ellis sweatshirt and jeans too. Go figure.

Absolutely Givenchy

I am in Phuket now and even before I stepped on the plane from Singapore, I already spent. Lol. I bought the limited edition Givenchy fragrance - Absolutely Givenchy.

I was checking out dfs at the ungodly hour of 620am (that is the time I cleared immigration after checking in). Stopped by Bobbi Brown to test out the highly-raved Coral blush. I love the sparkles unfortunately (or fortunately) I didn't like the color on my cheeks - too orangey. Never a fan of Nars Orgasm either, which it is said to resemble. There are 2 eyeshadow palettes from MAC which is Trip (?), meant to be sold in airport, I think. Colors are nice but I passed. Stila collection is really pathetic. Sad. Left the undesirables.

So ventured onto the fragrances section. Tried out Vera Wang Truly Pink - I quite like it. Light, slightly sweet floral scent. Not saccharine sweet like Princess. And it comes in 2 sizes (50ml, 100ml). Refrained from buying since I still have Sheer Veil. Saw Absolutely Givenchy - the bottle is so pretty. Pink and Green. I noticed many bottles in square-shaped now.

Absolutely Givenchy is a bit fruity and fresh and sweet. Lighter than my usual scents, similar to Anna Sui Secret Wish. It has green apple, sweet pea and crystal musk. I love it! There is even a gwp of a miniature. Neat!

Sidenote: I wish google/blogspot is not so intelligent! Everything is in Thai, just because I am in Thailand now. I can't read the damn instructions. Just trying to remember what each buttons mean.

Fragrance again - Nina

I just love the shape of this bottle - a red apple with silver cap and leaves. I bought the smallest bottle, which is a cute size. A tiny apple. It is a sweet toffee apple scent when you first sprayed it, then it settled onto a powdery vanilla-y finish. It reminded me of another scent, probably Pure Wish from Chopard.

Fragrance Galore

A gf just asked me today how many perfumes do I actually have, and I could not give her an answer, all I know was I have over 20 bottles (30ml and up), excluding miniatures and sample vials. I know I love fragrances, and do I need that many? I do not know, but I can't seem to stick to just one scent, make it my signature scent. I need variety, to suit my different moods.

When I am happy, I wear citrusy-floral sweet scents. When I am feeling sporty or going for sports, I like pure citrusy scents, something to perk me up. And for night events, I like musky, heavier scents which makes me feel sexy and glamourous. For work, I like light florals which is not too cloying or overpowering. During the day, I will wear something light. When I am going to the beach, I want to have a sea or ocean scent.

When I was young, I love looking and trying out new fragrances. I would buy foreign magazines just for the strips of perfume samples in the pages when I was in my teens. My very first bottle was probably Estee Lauder White Linen (a miniature of 15ml), which someone gave me. Then it was The Body Shop Fuzzy Peach and White Musk. EL Beautiful, Wings by Giorgio Beverly Hills (1992), Gio by Giorgio Armani and Tuscany Per Donna by Estee Lauder (1992) were some of the perfumes I liked then.

Then I started using Gap Dream, Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers, Lizsport by Liz Claiborne and various other body splash from Victoria Secrets. In 1997, I discovered you can actually buy sample vials or get them from the counters. I got cK Be, cK One, Polo Sport from RL, and CK Escape. I think that was the turning point. With the various scents, I started to use whatever I deemed is suitable for my mood or activity or event.

So I guess I have about 30 bottles of fragrances, with around 20 sitting on my dresser, the others are kept in my wardrobe (some opened and some unopened). Sigh, I am still eyeing Incanto Charms and Euphoria Blossom though.

Another new perfume

Ok, by now I think most people know I am really really into fragrances. After resisting the temptations of getting Incanto Charms from Ferragamo and cK Euphoria Blossom, I finally succumbed to getting Escada Pacific Paradise. Yes, I know. I just got Escada Magnetic Beat as a gift, plus Beyonce True Star Gold.

But...but...Pacific Paradise is just so different from the other two. It is fruitier, sweeter and so similar to Escada Sexy Graffiti which is my fave Escada perfume. For those who do not know, Escada releases a spring/summer fragrance annually and it is a limited edition, meaning you can't find it after the year is over. I got Sexy Graffiti in 2002, love it so much (then I didn't realize it was LE) and was lucky enough to find a 2nd bottle in end 2002 when the bottle was almost empty. Then I used it really sparingly cos I can't bear to finish it.

I didn't get the other LE scents i.e. Ibiza Hippie (2003), Island Kiss (2004) and Rockin Rio (2005) until today when I bought Pacific Paradise (2006).

Pacific Paradise:

Beyonce True Star Gold - Tommy Hilfiger

I bought True Star Gold last weekend at their roadshow outside Heeren. The scent itself while lovely, is not the usual scent I would choose. Milk, honey, tulip wood, lily, etc are something new for me. I was tempted to buy as I like the tank tee as well as the gold bag. The promotion tier is confusing, but suffice to say, I would need to spend $150 just to get the gold bag.

I decided to just wait and see if I still lem for it after the movie. After much walking around and stuff, I was still thinking about it, so I decided to take the plunge and plonked down the cash to get the bag and fragrance. I bought the 75ml EDT ($95) and the 200ml shimmer body lotion ($50) - the 30ml gwp body lotion was OOS by then, so the GWP I got in the end was a bit confusing.

Besides the gold tote bag (which is totally roomy, versatile and handy and oh-so-glam), I got the tank tee, hair accessory with gold sequin globes to tie the hair, pink panther notebook and some sample vials and the mesh pouch it came in. The promoter threw in those freebies for me. Right now when you buy at the store, it will just be the gold bag for $150 purchase.

I love the shimmer body lotion as the sparkles are small and lasting and will look really good with tanned skin. It gives a glow. The fragrance itself, I am starting to like it as it has a pretty fresh scent. The gold tote bag is the ultimate. It is light gold with a hot pink lining. The combination is very nice. My ex-colleague even commented on the color combi and he is a guy! (Must be the hazard of working in a fashion industry :p) I took it out for shopping and gym and to the pool. You can just dump everything in, with room to spare. The only gripe is that it does not have any zip or snap button to close it, so I have to be careful that I do not get pickpocketed.

Agnes bought the fragrance just for the bag too after she saw me carrying it at the IPS. We were joking that we paid $150 just for the bag. Lol. That is the most expensive bag I ever bought/owned.

Escada Magnetic Beat Fragrance

I plumb forgot I listed down Escada Magnetic Beat in my birthday wishlist and I got it yesterday as a belated birthday gift :) That was a wonderful present!

F dropped into Singapore for a few hours and bought that for me before leaving again. Feeling so happy now, with getting the fragrance (yes, I am a fragrance freak!) as well as finally seeing F again. It has been about 2 years 1 month since we last met. It was good catching up.

Magnetic Beat is released as a lighter version of Magnetism (released in America/Europe) in Asia back in 2003. Once I had a whiff of it, I knew I want it. It is slightly sweet, with a vanilla-y scent. Different from the citrusy stuff I usually wear. A gf got that for me as a Christmas gift in 2003 and that lasted for about 2 years (I finished the bottle early 2006), so now I am onto my 2nd bottle :) I'm a happy girl.
