Garuda Padang Cuisine

I finally got to try the food at Garuda behind the Heeren. I walked past it many times when I was on my way to the taxi stand, and it never seemed crowded. But it seemed to be well-liked by the well-heeled and Indonesians.

Garuda is under the Tung Lok Group, so you can be sure of consistent quality food. Apparently the chefs are from Indonesia too to give the bit of authenticity to the fare.

Since there are only 2 of us, we only ordered 4 dishes to share. Be warned, the portions are quite small.
The dishes we tried:
Sayur Urap (veggies - reminded me of veggies served in Bali)
Beef Rendang (Indo friend said it is authentic. Not very spicy. The meat is not too dry or chewy)
Chicken in green chilies (not sure if this chicken is also from kampong chicken, but it is quite tender and the green chilies is good)
Sambal squid (a bit chewy for some bits, mixed with petai)

Conclusion, the food is nice and great if you are in the mood for authentic Indonesian nasi padang. If you are used to the local nasi padang, then go to your usual food centers for your fix. It is quite pricey at Garuda, averaging about $20 each.
