Tau Kwa Pau

(Pic from Makansutra)
I just need to blog this so that I can remember the address. Apparantly there is a mini tau kwa pau war in East Coast/Joo Chiat area.
I used to love the tau kwa pau at the old coffee shop at the junction which is opposite Katong Mall but I never got to know the name. Then it was being renovated in the early 2000s and the stall apparently moved across the road to a coffee shop with bright yellow tables.

Then I basically stopped going to the area and now there are 2 stalls selling tau kwa paus. Reading the various reviews, it seemed like the original stall is no longer at the "old" renovated coffee shop (occupied by Mary's Corner) and that is the one which I like. I think a trip down to the Joo Chiat/East Coast junction is needed for me to discover.
Tau kwa pau is a teochew-nonya delicacy which is essentially deep fried bean curd stuffed with fried yam pieces, chopped eggs, fish cakes and drizzled with duck sauce and chili. Yummy! Unfortunately it is soon becoming a lost food item as it is certainly not easily found in Singapore.
